My '77 did it to me. All lights would intermittently dim, the van would not start at times, and would run rough occasionally. Even though I double wrenched the leads on the gauge, I had it in and out a few times and am probably the source of the failure. Until I find a new cluster for it, I put both leads on the same contact.
