is it easy? some of the vans at the junk yard have block off plates so i assumed they are electric, is it hard to convert it to electric??

it should be relatively simple,your just eliminating a fuel pump system and replacing it with all new parts.but there will always be things you don't expect,but then I am not a great mechanic. so alot of other guy's here will know better.

yeah i removed my bad fuel pump and went to put the new one in and there was a bar in the way, im guessing its what pushes the pump but i dont know how to move it lol so i said eff it for $8 ill make it electric lol

its not hard. you need a regulator w/ the fuel pump. but why change a design that has worked for year? mechanical design has worked well for years. unless your putting a real hot engine in it, you really wouldnt need one.

well my fuel pump is pumping but no gas is comeing through it.... it gets to the pump but not up the metal line.. and when i took it off some gas spilled out.. so do you think it just wasnt giving enough pressure or?? i pumped it by hand and the new one i could not even pump at all it was too hard lol, but i couldnt get the gas line off the old one so i returned the new one and was gunna just try the elec thing..

Go with a throttle body fuel pump.. a stock OEM one from a salvage yard.. if you have the time, get the tank and all.. it runs a max of 12 PSI and you can run a cheapo holley regulator to drop it to 6 or so for your carb. I used to run this on my 86 firebird drag car. I would run road driving at 6 PSI, then open it up to 10 for the strip. You just have to have a return line or else you get the full 12 PSI and you will blow fuel past the float needle and seat and flood the carb. Otherwise, you will have to get a very elcheapo electric pump that is only capable of 6 or 7 PSI and is self regulated.. these pumps are horrible. they do not last long at all.. unless you find an ooooold one from the 70's.. Malory used to make a good one, most of todays cheapo's are chinese junk.

hmm.. starting to sound more and more of a better choice to just buy another mechanical.. i only returned it cuz i couldnt remove the metal gas line off the old one and i really dont wanna go try it at the junk yard lol

Honestly, id stay with the mech fuel pump. cheap to replace and its ran off the engine itself... one less thing to draw battery power.

i have a holley elec fuel pump, but i dont plan on putting it on yet. It'll prolly go on when i swap out the engine... but hmmm yeap.


So it is pumping fuel? are u sure the hose isnt kinked somewhere?

yeah it seemed fine, it never had a prob before being parked, and fuel gets right up to the pump, but it wont go up the metal pipe..? and i cant get that pipe off of the old pump so im prob gunna have to find a used one or something its gunna suck trying to get it off at the wrecking yard but it looks like thats my only option damnit
