You will need to grab as much as you can from donor van especially wiring harness and computer, usually the computer is under drivers seat or inside wall panel behind drivers seat..other than that it should be fairly easy swap..

just talked to my buddy at the chevy store. he says....88-95 pretty much the same except sensors may be moved year to year. 4.3 is a 350/305 with 2 cylinders whacked off. tbi is the same, might have to swap out the injectors, for more flow. alternator, ac, power steering, accessories, engine mounts are all the same as a 350. he says biggest deal to get it to fit is swapping out the fan shroud, which isn't a big deal. he also recommended a 91 or newer engine for performance issues related to the early tbi's. if anyone has done this lemme know if there is already a thread here about how you went about it. thanks

I wanted to swap out a 4.3 from an Astro with a 350 so here's what I found out. (By the way I have one that was done but I did not do the doing). As it was said earlier in this thread a 4.3 is nothing more than the Chevy V-8 small block missing two cylinders. Your V-8 should bolt right up to the transmission and motor mounts (with the Astro there was a special motor mount available). I was told by my local shop that specializes in converting carburetor engines to tuned Port injection with all the electronics that I should use a 1989-1991 vintage 350, he said those are most compatible. You do have to change the computer (on the 91 Astro it was behind the kick panel on the passenger side I believe, you can either change this out with a junkyard or what I think is best to have it read program. all in all everything should go together fairly simple, you will have to do something with the fan shroud. If this is an Astro swap what seems to work best is removing a fan and going with an electric water pump and electric fan, thataway you don't worry about the mechanical fan being too close. The shop that gave me most of my information is "Larry's Electric, Ruma Illinois". This guy is great when it comes to anything automotive electrical, he's the one that fed me all my information and also reprogrammed my computer (the guy that put mine together forgot to mark the computer so I had to have the reprogrammed just to make sure).
