As a volunteer firefighter and EMT, I love the idea of having an AED available at any gathering of folks. Better yet, though, would be to have a measurable percentage of the membership have their basic 1st aid and CPR training. It's inexpensive to get and generally requires about a weekend to go through the classes. AED's are pretty foolproof (in EMS we call them firefighter-proof)and it would be best to rent rather than buy if possible as the batteries are REALLY expensive. Of course, inviting your local volunteer fire department out to an event can't hurt either. Remember, my "other" van has lights and siren!

Well Geoff " Garfvanner " did raise this at the CoC on the weekend....If everyone looks at Snotty's link it contains good information.......

It also shows why more than one at an eVANt would be helpful.....

So Rent, or buy, I think we would all like to see all the Council's consider this....a good investment if one is at every eVANt

As far as training goes, when I did my CPR training, it was only an extra 20.00 for the AED add on.........

Well, I just came home from the Natz, and the rented AED never arrived.....and was never required thankfully...... I treated several minor " ooopsees " and we had a couple EMT runs to the Saratoga Springs Medical Centre....... And sorry I cannot talk about specifics on those......

I always advise that anybody I treat follow up with advise from competent Medical Authority when I assist.......

One did, for some minor cuts from fishing around in a cooler looking for a brew when there were broken bottles and after 6 hours, and 350.00 they unwrapped my repair, blessed it, and rewrapped it and sent him back.......The next day when I went to recheck it the wounds were reopened from pounding on a van to get a friend up.......Rewrap, take 2.......

Well, it started hurting, as expected and he returned to the MC, another 4 hours, and a volume discount of 250.00.......

Day 3 rolled around, and I decided that no more visits from me were required, however someone else suggested he should soak it in salt water....Well he did, for 3 hours in the bandages and gauze.....

OK, so his hand looked like a Californian Raisin....At this point, he decided to pack up and go...hopefully one more time to the MC.....

Back on rounds.......

And Yes, I still think every Councils should get an AED for their own eVANT's.....and that would mean several at the Natz.....

Follow up....After insisting I do the American First Responder course at a cost of 350.00 USD, plus the trip to Buffalo, before I could rent the AED, they then took my deposit money, and instead of shipping it to the Natz as arranged, they shipped it to my Canadian address, without Custom papers, where it promptly sat for the 9 days when I was at the Natz out of touch..waiting for me to tell them they shipped it to the wrong place.......

While I just got all my rental money back, and they said they would also refund my course money, I am still of the opinion that all Council's should get their own as the best way to make sure one is where it is , when it is needed most........
