The A500 is the 904 based four speed overdrive automatic. The A518 is the 727 based four speed overdrive automatic. You want to find one from the late 80s to early 90s that is completely hydraulically controlled. HERE is some info to get you started, and HERE is some more detailed info. you will need to do some fabrication work, but it isn't too difficult in a van.
