Hi All,
Completely stuck at moment have surfed the net but no joy. Think I've undone all the bellhousing bolts but transmission still will not come out, have movement but not much.Have gap either side and at top, but still appears stuck, theres a cover on the lowehalf at the front of transmission, anyone know if theres any mounting bolts behind tyis cover or do I have to remove this when pulling the trans?
The A518 transmission is on 1989 Ramcharger at present, not pullled one of these before so probably doing something really stupid!
Thanks
Mark

You will need to pull that lower cover off and remove the bolts holding the torque converter to the flywheel.

Hi Fatvanman
Thanks very much for info, no wonder it won't come off. Will the bolts be easily visible when I open the cover?

And spin the flywheel till they come into view one at a time for easier removal.

Hi All,
Yes the starter is off, had been removed when I got there. Engine is also partially stripped as guy is parting vehicle.

"Doc 2% of Canada" - Do I need to crank the engine?

Thanks again regarding the pointer to the 4 torque converter bolts, once I have undone these hopefully it should separate, got to be the only thing holding it in now. Transmission is approx 35 miles from my home so will not be able to get back there now until next weekend to try this out, will definitely post a follow up to let you all know how I get on. Brilliant to know that theres this level of experience to call upon, to everyone who has posted you've really helped me out.

No, you can turn the torque converter by turning the crank on the engine itself (so long as it is still bolted to the flex plate). No need for a starter. Once the 4 bolts are undone and everything is supported, a pry bar at most, might be needed to separate the two but that should be it. Just watch for any wires that may not have been disconnected! smile Good luck.

Thanks Alikazam, when I was arranging to get this transmission I agreed a price with the guy "if I helped him to remove it" so wrongly assumed he knew what he was doing. Went mob handed and when we got there all he did was stand about smoking and didn't help once, when I asked him where shall we start he said not really sure haven't done one of these before! Oh well you live and learn, thats where it great to have a forum like this otherwise I'd still be working in the dark.
Thanks

Hi
One further question regrding the torque converter bolts, when viewing them through the inpection plate, are they in a recess or easily visible, will i need a spanner or can you get them with a socket. Does anyone know what size the socket is? Box is located 35 miles from me so sorry for all the questions but just want to make sure that when I go back to get it, I come away with it this time!
Thanks
Mark

usually a wrench will get them with a slight offset..a ratchet may need more clearance... usually between 7/16 and 9/16 in size
