That Q-Bond I was talking about comes with a filler powder that fills in cracks and such. . .

another video for q-bond, showing the powder usage for crack repair/ filler build up

I was thinking along the same lines as unclefester with my JB putty recommendation.

JB weld is good stuff, but I don't know how it does on plastics. Perhaps fine on some but on others, not so much.

I use a lot of epoxy on my Surfboards and mix it in little graduated cups. The leftover, once cured, usually peels right out of the cup and it can be used again, where as commonly available polyester resin bonds to the same plastic cups.

I have had luck bonding plastics using crazy glue. Now since there is usually not much surface area, on the back side I like to use carbon fiber or fiberglass roving. Which is just many many strands that make up a 1/8 to 3/16 inch thick piece to saturate with crazy glue.

A bunch of these spread out along the back side of the crack to spread the stress might just do it, and not discolor the front, the way some crazy glue likes to do to plastic.

I've also known some people to melt more plastic onto the backside using a soldering iron, but I have no experience trying this.

Not so concerned with discoloration. Plan on painting and recovering in blue to go with the denim interior I will end up with.

i bought a plastic welder, that i use to repair all kinds of plastics on bumpers and other pieces. i use this atleast once a week at work to repair customers cars and trucks. theyre about 150 bucks. they even carry them at harbor freight, and come with lots of different plastic sticks to match all the differnt kinds of plastic parts. plus a universal filler, that works on all kinds. hope this helps.

Thanx for the info Davetheory. I don't have $150 to spend and this is probably the only piece of plastic I have to repair. Now if you wanna come over and bring your tool...or lend it to me for a couple hours...lol. I have been doing some reading. Now I have to figure out exactly what kind of plastic this is...ABS or something else ( A chemical name I can't pronounce ) to determine how to fix it. It's getting a bit frustrating.

I told you, Q-Bond ! It cost me $30.00 for a kit with 6 bottles, and I repaired a tear in my urethane body lit a year ago and it is still holding strong. I pushed the two parts back together, put some Q-Bond drops on the front, help for 10 seconds or so so it could bond, then turned it over and added some of the powder (included in the kit) to the rear of the tear, added a few drops of Q-Bond again and let it cure about 5 mins, put the body kit back on the Astro, and have had no problems with it from then on.
