727 are a real basic tranny unless you have overdrive. Rebuild kit is less than $100 more like $65 or $75. Depending on how mechanical you are or price it through a shop . if they want an arm and leg try Summit or Jegs They have street trannys for less than a thousand dollars for Dodges. Part number TCI 111138 1967 to 1979 non lock up 727 for 318 , 340 and 360

I did my own as well when my reverse band and drum wore out. Put in the good clutches and steels and kevlar bands and already had transform tf2 shift kit. Rebuild kit was like $150 I think?

.....if kits so cheep why they want so muck ? Rebuild kits are little more than clutches/plates, a couple of bushings, gaskets and seals. With mine I also needed all the thrust washers, most of the bushings, a race, a planetary gear assembly, bands (kevlar) and just to be sure contamination isn't an issue a new torque converter. Add on a bunch of labor and that guys quote might be in the ballpark, although I couldn't say for sure since I never had one rebuilt before. Don't blame you for not wanting to do it yourself, not super complicated but it's sure a lot of work. Good luck with it.

PATC sells beefed-up rebuilds and all sort of parts for Chrysler and other transmissions. They have really good pictures too, which could help you identify what parts you're looking at. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm

I just looked at Summit's on line and they have overhaul kits from $54.95 for the soft seal kits and they range from there to a little over 300 for the Mopar performance kits. but it looks like between $150 and $210 you can get going again with a complete kit. if you do it yourself.
