Does anyone have antique/classic insurance on their van? I am thinking I want to get it as if something would happen to my van they would just Want to total it and give me a few hundred bucks. My van is probably the nicest thing i have ever owned. And I am afraid something might happen. I have put 600 miles on it since Thursday. I am not afraid to drive it.
I was hit in my 68 sport fury years ago, and the insurance only wanted to give me 1000 when the estimates to fix it were near 2k they said because it wasn't registered and insured as an antique it wasn't worth anything.

A stated value policy is better than a standard policy, but still not what you want to have. A stated value policy is based on a value that the vehicle owner "states" that it is worth. In the case of a claim, the insurance company will appraise the vehicle's worth. Rest assured that it will be less than you "stated".

An agreed value policy is the way to go (if it's available where you live). The value of the vehicle is agreed on up front.

In most states, these policies are only available on vehicles that are registered as antiques. All most all of them will have annual mileage, distance from home and secured (garage) parking restrictions. They usually require proof of transportation, a daily driver.

Personally, I have Grundy. Their milage/usage restrictions aren't quite as restrictive as Hagerty's. Grundy has also just released another insurance line called MVP. It designed to cover the daily drivers and vehicles like my van. A vehicle that gets driven more often, but still not a daily driver.

I had a stated value policy on a classic. It was stolen and the 3rd party appraisal was needed before they would pay, but indeed pay the full amount.

I do not have any type of classic insurance on either my '32 fordor or '56 T-bird. I enjoy driving my cars and every classic company I looked at was far too restrictive with what where and when you could do with your vehicle. Most covered only for occasional trips to shows or other events where you would be near the vehicle most of the time.

I had the standard policy on my van that are on the '32 and '56. AAA paid at the upper end of the scale when they valued for total loss. They did not cover many items like sound/video system and other electronics that were installed, but all of that came out before they towed it off. I got more from that standard insurance policy than I ever could have sold it for.

I believe I have agreed value on my 68 charger. I have it insured for 9k and the nicer it gets the price will go up.. I will have to call and change it of course. But I wanted it just in case something would happen to it while it is in the garage. Fire, theft. Whatever. I think i paid 125 for a year.
I called today and asked about getting the van insured. Didn't hear back yet. I think I am going to put 10k on it if I can. I will have to check the restrictions.
