To add to Wookee's comments, this stuff motivates everyone. You can not follow a thread like this without getting the urge to head to the garage and do something. Keep up the good work! My thoughts exactly!

Right on guys thanks for all the comments they help keep me motivated as well. I have welded tons of heavy steel over the years but this sheet metal tack welding is just CRAZY I thick it was Ken who said "DZZZZZZZZZIT... Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap... DZZZZZZZZZIT... Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap..." and man oh man this is so different but I'm gonna take my time with the welding and try to get as much practice in on the floors before I get to the panels. Wookee, as far as the drive train goes I'm still on the fence there,I think in the end the 400SB will go back in and will be built more street friendly.financially speaking the 305 will most likely be my only choice for this summer.. Not much progress to report on the old girl I've been slacking .....

Welding light sheet metal is a whole different animal that welding heavy steel. I have seen guys who are pros at welding heavy steel do terrible with the light stuff. It takes a whole different mind set.You really don't want a continuous weld.Instead a gazillion good "Hot" tack welds.
Your 400 with a low end torque cam will still be a pretty sweet engine and a nasty light to light performer.

I really hate trying to weld thin steel, i can do it fairly well but i have little patience for it. Your work looks good.

Not much progress to report on the old girl I've been slacking ..... Yeah, that was me! You are doing an awesome job! Everything looks like it fits really well. On your battery tray comment, it is nuts how some parts look the same until you lay them next to each other. When I replaced a section of the rear door sill from a donor van it looked exactly the same but was 1/2" taller than the one in Lukes van. He also got me a new rocker to fix the last rust area that reared it's ugly head while in the shop and it looked really nice until I started to install it. The new panel has a totally different curve to it.
