How do u get from a 8 track player into an amp???? I have a Orion amplifier with the "smart" connection that will power the amp/kill it when there is not a signal from the head unit. Most other head units have the "head" (I think) line out and that is what is supposed to be routed to the amp. Well...there is no "head" line out of the player, so what can I do???? Trying to keep it 70s in the van, but if not anyone want to buy a 8 track player?

Some older amps use the deck speaker lines as the input. You might looks for one or two (or four) of those.

I have already purchased a 4 way amp. It has the 8 pin "smart" connection, so the amp will power up when the radio is on. Not sure what to do; isnt there a way I could splice something up to make it work? Are there adaptors of some sort to be able to route it through?
@Suzie-BGfNY-IN: I do need tapes!!!! Assuming I can actually use the player. Sending PM

How about some pics of what we are working with. Maybe the connector on 8 track and amp. Should be able to help.

If there are no pre-outs(red and white a/v style cables on the back of the deck, you can purchase a converter at any stereo store or walmart that converts a speaker level input to a pre-out signal. Its the same thing as putting an amp to a factory head unit.

Its the same thing as putting an amp to a factory head unit. No converter is needed, the amp accepts speaker level inputs. Just hook the deck to the amp using those, they will be the only speaker connections on deck. It probably also has a common ground for all (2 or 4, but I'm betting 2) speakers, connect that to both grounds on the speaker input harness for the amp.
