Yup, you got the famous 350. It has been around a long time and has gone through many evolutionary changes. Be careful buying parts as some will only work with certain years of engine. There is less you can do for improvement on a 1994 engine, it's pretty powerful and efficient the way it is. Great motor. A basic tuneup and a bottle of injector cleaner might be all it needs to purr.

it certainly dosent sound like the 350's if heard so far. would that be down to the exhaust & muffler?

Probably. The factory makes them pretty quiet. A high performance muffler and dual exhaust will help a lot. However the Hot Rod sound you may be thinking of is usually an older car with an engine that has no emissions requirements loaded with lots of high performance parts and really short pipes. A fully built small block can have gobs of power and sound truly amazing. It's mostly the exhaust and camshaft that affect the sound though. I don't know what's legal in Scotland or how far you want to go. I'd start with a Flowmaster muffler.

High performance muffler, headers, decent cam, and a free flowing air filter will make it sound amazing.
