(1) try pulling the gear shift towards you when you try and shift gears
(2) if that doesn't work, crawl under the van and see i there is something bent, misadjusted, or jamming the linkage
(3) if that doesn't work, you re going to have to drop the pan and see if something is jammed in the transmission itself

Good luck.

Does the linkage move at all or the shifter move at all?? its possible a connected piece of linkage came off, lost the retaining pin holding it to the transmission or what not. Worth looking into at least smile

check to make sure the steering wheel wasn"t turn the whole way one way or the other.. My pick-up sometimes does that.. Just have to turn wheel a bit . know that sounds simple but just food for thought.

I'm not a Dodge guy but most late model vehicles have some type of shift lever/brake pedal interlock.
(My GMC has a brake pedal activated solenoid that pulls a cable release for the shift lever.) I'm not sure what type of interlock Dodge has but I would check to see if it's working properly.

yeah all the newer vehicle have brake interlocks on them my lebaron failed on me so I ended up breaking it off, but lebaron's very different from 03 ramvan. I don't have much info for you there. Check the brake pedal, sometimes there's an extra linkage on it it may be coming loose or something. Only thing I can think of.

All of the above plus I've seen rigs with a few miles on them get 'stuck' in park when rig is on an incline, puts some extra bind on the parking pawl so it needs a little muscle humping to get it back out.
