also, I have 2 really good mechanic neighbors that are always there to lend me a hand if needed.... one other thing, It has a 3 speed on the column now, should I try to find a 4 speed trans to throw in there while I am at it?

You would have to change steering column.

Best to find a donor van for all the linkages, transmssion, small parts, etc.

Well...you wouldn't have to change out the column, but you'd probably want to remove the shifter handle and of course the old shift linkage at the base of the column.

Don't think about a v-8. There are many simple and cheap things you can do to a slant six that will really improve the performance and economy. Everyone will tell you slant sixes make no power and you should put in a v-8. They are wrong.

I haven't received any responses to the ad, but I will let you know if I do.

You might also try www.car-part.com I found an 83 slant six out of a Dodge pickup at Pearsons Auto Wrecking in Ridgecrest (1-800-446-5865) for $450. If the motor is in good shape that isn't a bad price.

Hey All, I just came across a bonus today and am full bore looking for a motor to put back into my van, If I were to find a newer lets say 83 motor, will all the accessories from a motor lets say from 74 bolt right on, IE manifolds, carburetor etc. I found a later engine and not sure if I should make the deal or not. Thanks!!

Keep it a slant six. Economy and the cool factor.

hopefully yall can help me. I found a local yard with 2 motors, one is pre smog, one is post smog. he wants 500 for either and I will probably go take a look at them tomorrow. will the accessories from my motor bolt right onto any slant 6? or are they year/ model specific? I am talking transmission, manifolds, and all others. should I get the most modern engine as I dont need to run smog equipment anyhow? thanks for any help
