Vannin Capital, the global expert in legal finance, today announces the arrival of managing directors José Antonio Rivas in Washington, D.C. and Alexandra Dosman in New York City. José Antonio joins from Arnold & Porter LLP and Alexandra most recently served as the first executive director of the New York International Arbitration Center (NYIAC).
"The arrival of José Antonio and Alexandra reflects our commitment to our U.S. arbitration practice and our continued interest in investment treaty arbitration," said Vannin CEO Richard Hextall. "Washington and New York are global centers for international arbitration and they will play an important part in growing our business."
Head of International Arbitration at Vannin, Yasmin Mohammad adds, "I am delighted to welcome José Antonio and Alexandra into our global international arbitration team. Their breadth of experience and deep knowledge in the field will be enormous assets."
José Antonio will work with parties from a wide range of industries that require funding to solve their disputes through international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. His sophisticated understanding of international investment and international commercial arbitration comes from working in various capacities in international arbitration, including as counsel for private parties and sovereign clients, arbitrator in international and domestic arbitrations, lead negotiator of investment treaties, and International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) counsel.
"Vannin has earned a reputation as a global expert in legal finance due to its deep experience in the industries in which it serves and its commitment to providing tailor-made funding options for its clients and facilitating access to justice in meritorious cases," José Antonio said. "I look forward to being part of Vannin's growth and working with a talented team in the U.S. and internationally."
José Antonio's experience also includes serving as Director of Foreign Investment in the Ministry of Trade of Colombia, where he headed international negotiations and concluded investment treaties with 15 countries, including those with Canada, China, India, Switzerland and the U.K.
Alexandra will advise Vannin's clients on funding options for international arbitration cases, both commercial and investor, and for litigation relating to the enforcement of arbitral awards in the U.S. At the non-profit NYIAC, she worked alongside practitioners, academics, and the judiciary to promote and enhance the conduct of international arbitration in New York.
"I was drawn to Vannin's global footprint and successful track record in funding international arbitration cases," Alexandra said. "Vannin has an unrivaled understanding of the legal systems in the jurisdictions in which it operates."
José Antonio is an adjunct professor of Investment Treaty Arbitration and Public International Law at Georgetown University Law Center, from which he holds Science Juris Doctor (SJD) and LLM degrees. He graduated as a lawyer and economist from Los Andes University in Colombia.
Alexandra was educated at McGill University in Montreal and at the University of Toronto. She is a Canadian national and is bilingual English and French.
