THIS IS AN EVENT not to be missed ! It would take a major catastrophe to keep me away from this event as it is one of my all-time favorites....There are several reasons for that, with one of the major items being all the kindness that we receive from the staff.....From a genuine concern from the people involved, to the grounds, services and things like this: When the club members saw that Lucy was having a great deal of trouble walking, they simply handed me the keys to a golf cart so that she could get around and speak with our many friends.. The theme this year was "Van-Lympics" and games were set up in this theme....At the awards ceremony I always enjoy seeing the looks of happiness on the childrens faces when they receive an award- in this case medals and ribbons in the olympic style... This years "Best of Show" award went to Bob and Eric Anthony for their van "Night Moves" which was fresh out of the shop of Mike Mosher....I was also very impressed with Brian Bowie's early Dodge Explorer van that he is extensivly customizing, This year it showed up with dual rear axles- something rarely, if ever, done on an early van...... And let's not forget the clubs food booth where I can get my eggs and scrapple for breakfast..And the Saturday night steak dinner- a staple item at these events..... We missed out on a few things as we spent two days either shopping downtown or trying to get the van back to our campsite...a little more about that in a few minutes.... The weather couldn't have been much better for the time of the year. It was warm and sunny during the days but chilly at night. However with the help of proper clothing and Rebels usual bonfire, it wasn't a problem....There were of course several other food vendors to cater to the vanners tastes, and an assortment of others selling the event shirts, custom shirts, glass etching, patches, and so forth...Tumbleweed was busy selling some back issues of old van magazines while Leadfoot trolled for ideas and contributors for the next issue of Van-In magazine.... But all to soon it was time to leave. We had driven down I-81 to get there, but as usual took 209 back up thru the water gap....It is 442 miles down if we follow the interstate, and 407 miles home via the smaller road....Might make better time on the interstate, but we still have to slow down for the road construction that makes up half of the trip thru Pennsylvania...In Jim Thorpe we paused to see if the Sunrise Diner had re-opened, but to my surprise we found that it was not open- in fact it wasn't even there! Gone ! Empty hole !
MECHANICAL TROUBLE...We had a fair share of problems with the '88, but not as bad as Al Koch had with his diesel van that has to get him back to Wisconsin, towing his big vendor trailer (Van Tee's)....Big Bob also had a major glitch when part of his radiator broke and sprayed anti-freeze all over the new motor and his windshield..... Our problems began with a no start condition in the parking lot in Pottsville....I'll be brief as I can...Major help arrived from Rebel, Bob Anthony, and a new friend John DeLuca and Linda...They are from Three Rivers Vans and their van is "Vanatic"- a very nice early 70's factory van...It's interesting to note that this is how I met Rebel. It was at the 15th Nats in Rhode Island, where he had been faced with a no-start, and I helped him out with a jump...and we've been friends ever since..So guess what John...You are now my official "buddy "!We also got a lot of help from the staff at the Advance Auto store where we were parked....The problem was found- and the next morning, after we had limped back to the grounds on 8 volts, Bonehead rewired the trouble spot properly and we were at 14 volts and off to town....Later, back at camp it acted up again...More helpers, Ray, Dimples, Steve, and others and we finally got it going again...What the hell could it be? Buck and Bonehead and a few others suspected the battery isolator and I unhooked it....after we got home Jeff found a problem with the ground cable and fixed it.....We are good to go again ! And now we look forward to a great time at Summerset ! See Ya there ! And a final thanks to all the vanners who stopped to help out with the van. It's great to have people like this when you are an old guy- not a mechanic- and unsure as how to proceed....TIETIS

It's been a busy few weeks....Of course we went to the Lake George car show, and spent a week at the campsite....The new diner across the road was busy all the time and at knight the streets look like a riot ! Huge crowds line the road in front of the campsite and rodders, locals, and others race up and down the road- open headers-tire smoke- loud people-beer- cops, ect.....it is a sight to behold. It's not a van event but several of our regular vanner friends stopped by for a visit... Back home we have spent an uneasy week or two getting the furnace to work as it should....and then we still had a few issues with the van....But now both items are fixed- I have MOST of the tree sap removed from the van...As we were parked under the trees at the campsite- it was plastered...First time we have had a problem with sap there... SO here we go - with the van fixed and the weather reports looking good ( the hurricane passed thru the other day after visiting Texas and still downing trees and wires this far north) we will head out tomorrow morning for Summit Station for Keystone Madness.....I always enjoy this event and will enjoy it more so now that all out little problems are fixed (as far as I know)..... Hope to see many of you there at the run...don't bring much food because the club runs the best vanning kitchen in the east....I'll be at the tables there ! TIETIS.

It's unfortunate but there might not be a 2009 Vannin' calendar. So far I have orders for only 25 and some large orders promised but as yet not in. If by Oct 5 the orders totals aren't over 300 I will have to send back your cheques or destroy them. This is the first time this happens that there are so few orders at this time, maybe the calendars have run their course. Full details on the 2009 calendar orders can be found here: http://showtrux.com/calendar/2009calendar/2009orderform.html
