I don't know. I think a good old-fashioned SBC would be your best bet. Simple and reliable. Shhhhhh!!!!!!. No more options.

When people were mentioning pushrods, I thought of using the old Ford Boss engines.. but being clueless as I was, I couldn't figure out whether we could add EFI to those... (not knowing that there were kits from Ford racing and Edelbrock) Anyways, for me to go in for a pushrod, I would have to take an engine from Ford Racing itself. Its far more easier for me to go to the dealer and get an triton crate engine or a LS / Vortec.

get an early , pre 95 block...before they redesigned to the vortec motor.....if I can do duel wheel burn outs for 30-40 ft in a 8600 lb van you will have way more hp to put that vw down the road..... Correct me if I'm wrong... but aren't those engine designs the same as the ZZ454 they have now in the GM Performance Catalog???

Lets not start this again.... I've narrowed my engine options to the 5.3L Vortec & the 5.4L Triton. So far, I've pretty much chosen the Triton. Browsing through articles to find out more reliability issues... So far, I've notice quite a bit of talk about the blown spark plugs in the Triton and the Vortec has problems with the intake manifold ( Click here ) along with issues of burning oil...

I cannot believe how hard it is to find a decent VW LT like the one in the picture above.. I did find a 4x4 ambulance... but it would have been a waste to take away its off-road suspension system. In the end it got exported to africa to be used in remote african bush... Since then I've been trying to find myself a good 2WD version, but have had no luck...

The problem witht the LT (either 28, 31 or 35, which rates the GVW) is the same with the Vanagons. They where used commercial, and since the production stopped a long time ago (in 1996), nearly every LT is worn out and rusted away. The only way to get one in better shape is a former fire-fighter or military car. At ebay.de you can find at the moment some LT's including fire-fighter equipment for decent prices. One example: < http://www.ebay.de/itm/VW-LT-31-Ziegler-...=item27becc530c> LT 31 from april 1987, original 14,800 km (less than 10,000 miles), panel van with additional two windows in sliding door and opposite. Needed repairs: some minor welding to the underbody, both brake-hoses front need to be replaced, last pease of exhaust has to be replaced Fixed price 2,500 Euro different other can be found under <http://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_nkw=volkswagen+lt&_sacat=9800&Modell=LT%252028%252D35%2520I%2520Kasten&Marke=VW&_dmpt=DE_Autoteile&_odkw=volkswagen+lt&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313>
